This place hiked up the price to over 500/night to stay at a DOUBLETREE, and refused to refund the money, even though 3 Hilton employees had told me previously that I could get the money back. I was charged over $500 dollars to not stay there. Larry, who told me "too bad" because it's a "special event" weekend, he could only refund me one of the nights. The first time I called I was told no manager was there to do it, the second time I called, I was hung up on, the third time I called, I was told the manager wasn't in yet, and the fourth time I called I was connected to Mr. I called the Hilton help line 4 times to cancel, was told that I would be able to get the money back as a courtesy because of the circumstance. I had a death in my family, and was unwilling to visit NC. Larry" the manager is completely unwilling to work with customers. but a Hilton property? Needless to say, I expected more. Every day more bugs appeared in the room - even as Housekeeping had clearly been present - with some even appearing on the headboard above my side of the bed! I have stayed at lesser properties where I might expect a few bugs here and there and perhaps a rude Manager. He claimed there was no one I could speak to and curtly ended our conversation with a "Goodnight' as he left the room. When I asked to speak to a Supervisor or someone above him concerning our situation, he said, "I am the Manager of this hotel." I acknowledged that and stated I wanted to speak to someone above him. When he saw me taking a photograph of the bugs on his plate, he quickly turned away as if to try to hide the evidence. So, Larry proceeded to sweep up the bugs onto his plate saying there was nothing more he could do about the situation in our room. He claimed that Orkin had treated the facility and that the Health Department claimed the insects posed no health threats. We were told they were just "seasonal bugs" and that it was very common this time of year to have them in every room. Larry, the Manager showed up with a broom and a styrofoam plate the "sweep up" the bugs in our room. 20 minutes later, there was a knock at our door. Then, my wife asked to speak to the Manager and was told he would come to our room. She was told that housekeeping went home for the day. She requested that housekeeping would come and sweep up the dead bugs in our room. She was told the property was full and there were no empty rooms. She called the front desk and inquired about switching to another room that didn't have bugs. Upon arriving at our room, my wife discovered 12-15 bugs on the windowsill and on the carpet. Sadly, this 3-night stay started off poorly and never improved. ![]() Previous stays have been wonderful and without issues. When visiting family in the area, this is our preferred location.
